Carbon Canyon Regional Park

Location: Brea: 4442 Carbon Canyon Road
Hours: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 1 through March 31; 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. April 1 through Oct. 31
Cost: The county parking lot is $3 per vehicle during the week, $5 on weekends and $7 to $10 on holidays.
For ages: All

You’ll think you’ve been transported to the Northern Pacific when you get a chance to visit this 124-acre regional park and take a stroll through its magical 10-acre grove of Coastal Redwoods at one end. It’s a 1.1-mile hike out to the grove, but the trek is along a pretty nature trail.

You can start your day with a picnic lunch at the picnic tables, but there are plenty of other things here to keep you and your clan busy: There’s a 4-acre lake with two fishing piers (fishing license is required for anyone 16 or older), five tot lots and a 1.5-mile bike trail.

Where to park: Parking is plentiful in the lot off Carbon Canyon Road.

What to bring: Parking fee, water bottles, sunscreen. Great place for a picnic. There aren’t any snack stands here, so if kids will get hungry, be sure to bring snacks.

Best time to go: Any time
